All Work & No Play ...

So you know there will be paneling at EschaCon '08, but there will also be a social component, specifically a Friday (March 28th) Drink Thing and a Saturday (March 29th) Dinner Thing.

I'll be scouting potential drinking and dining locales in City of Brotherly Love. In the interim, I'd love to hear any suggestions that you may have for specific spots I should check out. Post 'em in comments and when the time comes, I'll drop by and see if these establishments would be interested in hosting a meeting of The Vast Left Wing Conspiracy.

I like the Belgian pub Eulogy very much (it is a few doors down from where we had the Indian buffet) but it might be too pricey -- also don't know how much room they have upstairs (but if you like Belgian ales & food...)

I could recommend a number of places, but it would be helpful to know a ballpark figure on the number of people. For example, Tangier, where Drinking Liberally meets, might be too small.

Sounds interesting. How many people are gonna be at this love fest? ;-)

Well, last time it was around a hundred or so--I'd expect this one to be slightly larger.

Odds are, I'll be there, and I am worth at least ten on my own...

Serious question:

Any chance of a EschaCon Cook-off? As a Sunday Brunch idea?

I'd REALLY like to sample some of the treats that are talked about!

roadmaster,
The problem is facilities. People traveling from out of town generally won't have food storage capabilities, and unless we know someone with a big freezer, it's just logistically complicated.

If we could take over a church basement for a weekend it would solve the problem, but churches work weekends, and we're godless commies.

We had dinner in the upstairs banquet room of Vietnam Palace (N. 11th St.) and as far as I know, everyone liked it.

I've got two 3-burner camp stoves w/propane hook-up and wind screens. I live in northern DE, and the trip to Philly isn't bad. And 2 cast ironaexul griddles and lots of cast iron frying pans, if'n you want. I used to cook at 25 person campouts at the beach. Sourdough whole wheat/wheat germ/banana/pecan pancakes are my specialty.
