Welcome!

We're starting to organize EschaCon 08, tentatively to be held in the city of brotherly love on March 29-30, 2008, a scant 3 weeks before the Pennsylvania primary. We're looking for logistical and content details here: Speaker recommendations, restaurant recommendations, anything else you can think of. Jump on it; the water's fine!

I will only attend if we stay at the same anti-union hotel as last time. And I demand more sex.

Was thinking about this when I woke up this morning (that's what I get for hanging out at Eschaton until 1:30 a.m.).

I got up enough nerve to have Press the Meat on in the background yesterday ... I usually don't have the stomach for it ... and Carl Bernstein actually said something that caught my ear, which I am paraphrasing (imagine jowly, lugubrious voice): "Perhaps we journalists should start paying attention to the bloggers, since it is possible that they are more in tune with what is going on in the country than we are."

No shit, Sherlock!

That, along with Cokie Roberts' comment about the internets fucking up the electoral process, got me to thinking ... instead of trying to get the politicos to Eschacon, suppose we focus on the press and make them the subject matter? You know, something like "The Role of the Media in the Electoral Process."

Have three tracks: teevee, radio, print. Invite Russert, Matthews, Stephanopolis, Sheiffer, Olbermann, Moyers, Stewart and/or Colbert, and for gravitas, Walter Cronkite, and stick them on a panel.

Do the same for the other media.

And then let them know what we think of them: praise the ones that deserve it, and kick the other ones in the nuts.

Could be fun. And it's time to hold the assholes' feet to the fire.

That is out of my hands, but I suspect it's in yours.

Oooo! Burn!!!

Brooklyn Girl, a terrific idea! Do you have any media contacts?

Free babysitting at Uncle Atrios' place would be a good thing too ;)

NTodd, already in contact with that shitty non-union hotel that fucked up the wireless. :)

Actually, Gomez gave me a lovely book of all "blue" related businesses for Christmas, so I'll take a look at that tonight.

Happy to help.

I love it when people are willing to work as a team on this type of thing.

Oh yeah, and let's ask Al Gore to speak!

Heh heh heh.

Glad you like the idea!

No, not directly, but maybe indirectly.

Happy to help if I can, Molly!

Not sure if you saw my comment on the morning thread, but if you wanted a reprise of the Indian food, the founder of Karma is now a neighbor of mine. He's out of Karma now, but has opened up a new spot, called Tiffin, which is getting great reviews.

This can only be good news for Republicans.

Seriously, anything I can do, let me know. I am SO happy this is happening...

And I think brooklyn girl is onto something. A panel on the media is a brilliant idea...

I say lure Joe Klein there and then hit him with the chair...

Vicki will be providing day-care for newborns, right....?

Nim,

Certainly. I'll take charge of the baby.

Hmmmmm.......
(seriously, a good idea. You canvassed for him; do you know anyone in his organization?)

I can't breastfeed, but I can corrupt any kids you want to leave with me.

Oh, and I'll bring the wireless router...

Mary,

I did (use to know) some people in the Gore campaign. I still have those contacts.

BTW, Gore will turn 60 on March 31, 2008!

I doubt I'll be there, but as always, if you need any help with graphics and stuff...

And I want the t-shirt concession, dammit!!!

Is this starting Friday night? I may have to cut short my conference in Wisconsin to get to this meeting (maybe by train) -- but of course I am happy to do so (just don't tell my abbot!)

Monica Goodling was once at a party at our place...should I invite her?

Also, Philadelphia has citywide wifi now, so perhaps that might be useful in some way.
